Our story

A charity built for the moments before crisis.

Pathways Project is a registered charity with harm prevention as our main activity — working in early intervention, mentoring and community wellbeing across Australia.

Why we exist

Most people who reach crisis didn't get there overnight.

There were moments, often months or years earlier, when a steady conversation, a structured program, or a clear next step could have changed the trajectory. Pathways Project is built around those moments.

Our programs combine peer connection, structured wellbeing frameworks, and pathways into qualified clinical support. We work alongside GPs, counsellors, psychologists and crisis services, never in place of them.

We believe in honest scope, calm conversations, and practical next steps. That's what early intervention actually looks like.

Our public benefit purpose

Pathways Project exists for public benefit. Our main activity is the prevention and control of harmful and abusive behaviours — including drug and alcohol abuse, self-harm, suicide, physical assault and family violence — through early intervention, behaviour-change counselling, community education and referral pathways.

Volunteers, mentors & scope

Pathways volunteers, mentors and support personnel provide peer support, guidance, encouragement and wellbeing-focused mentoring designed to strengthen connection, resilience and positive life direction.

Pathways mentors and volunteers are not clinical therapists, psychologists, counsellors or medical practitioners and do not provide medical diagnosis, psychiatric treatment or clinical mental health services.

Where additional or specialised support may be required, Pathways assists individuals through appropriate referral pathways to qualified external support providers or emergency services where necessary.
